Health Certificates
When we show our dog or puppies we have been displaying our in date health certificates and rabies certificates on our crates. I think it would be a good idea for for all owners/handlers to display their health certificates and rabies certificates. I don't know about some of you but I prefer to know that each and every dog has been vet checked before coming to a show. Our dogs have to walk where all of them walk and we come back home to our kennels and puppies, just hate to bring any thing home. I know of several who have not ever gotten health certificates (because they have told me so). So I wanted to suggest this to some of you and see what your thoughts were on it for the the up coming show year.
Thanks.

RE: Health Certificates
I was under the impression that at check out, these documents are checked by APRI and if you do not have them you are not allowed to show. I am not sure why you would need to display them if this matter is taken care of at check in. Personally, all of my dog information is kept in a notebook and if there were ever any questions on my documents then I would be happy to show past or present certificates to anyone who asked.
Also, I noticed that this was your first post so have you had people at APRI shows say they never did get these documents?? If so, i would think you would need to contact the office with this issue. Just to be on the safe side.

RE: Health Certificates
You are quite correct; we do require that paperwork at check in. If someone has slipped through, that's exactly what it was. We may miss some, but we make a good effort to make sure everyone has that information before they get their buttons for showing.

Yep, unlike "The Other Guys" APRI requires a health certificate for each dog at each show. Perhaps you aren't familiar with APRI shows "Poodle Patch?"

RE: Health Certificates
As I am surfing the different forums, I do have a question about this! I need to get our Bloodhound micro-chipped and have the health certificate done too. So, how many days before the show is the certificate good for? And, does the vet generally have a standardized form to fill out? Also, what needs to be on it if there is no standardized form? Thanks to everyone and their responses to this one and the one regarding the dog show. Everyone is so courteous and friendly and it makes my husband and I all the more anxious to meet everyone and show Parker! ~Malana~

A general health certificate is good for 30 days from the day of examination. There is a pretty standardized form that the vet fills out and most vets typically know what you are talking about when you ask for a health certificate. Typically, they do a general exam of the dog and make sure the animal is healthy, free from communicable diseases, and is current on all of their shots. I have never seen a vet who did not have a form so I would not worry about that.
If you have any specific circumstances reguarding the animal, then ask the vet to note them on the certificate. You never know, I had my dog jump out of a window in a truck and scratch his head a few weeks before a show. He was fine just had some missing hair but sometimes things happen like that and to make sure no issues arise later you can have the vet note it on the paperwork.

RE: Health Certificates
I had someone call me today, and ask about bringing dogs to the show, and they were not going to actually show them. She wondered if she needed a health certificate on them??? I hadn't thought about it, never did it, but realized that I have seen dogs brought to shows that were not shown. Maybe a breeder is wanting to sell them??
Okay, well, it seemed reasonable to me that they should also be checked by a vet - because like I said to my friend, she wouldn't want someone bringing a sick dog to the show and exposing her dogs to anything.
What is the protocal on this type of thing? Dogs not shown, may not be checked in at all??
Maybe they are, I've never done this.
Anyway, I look forward to hearing from you.
also, 4/6/09, I have to say, I love the looks of the site. It is beautiful!!!!
One thing - not real crazy about the kids puppy dress up - the articles of clothing suggest not such a nice clean cut thing.
Lots of questions, I didn't see the fish symbol anywhere - is APRI still showing itself to be a Christian organization?
Thank you very much.

RE: Health Certificates
Sorry to be so long looking at these posts. Yes, we still have the fish symbol on our puppy applications. We don't trade on our faith, but we do still display it in a discrete way.
